WARM UP ARENAS
Rule F.10.2 Etiquette for the warm-up arena
As there are many horses warming up in a restricted area it is important that all riders have knowledge of the etiquette required in group riding. This ensures safe riding and achieves harmony in busy areas.
- safety is paramount, and a collision should be always avoided
- before entering the warm-up area make sure the gateway and immediate track are clear
- riders should pass left shoulder to left shoulder when on the outside track
- when not on the outside track, e.g., on a diagonal line, riders should give way to horses on their left
- the more progressive gait has priority on the track (e.g., horses trotting should give way to horses cantering)
- a halt should not be on the track
- walking should not be on the track and does not have right of way
- trot has priority over walk
- canter has priority over trot
- lateral work has priority over all paces
- when circling, anticipate your return to the track so that you do not stop the flow of other riders
- mounting, dismounting and gear adjustment should be done off the track
- consideration should be given to behaviour of other horses in the arena that may upset your horse
- it may be necessary to leave the area if your horse is upsetting others
- if a horse is upsetting the majority, an official should be sought with a view to requesting that horse’s removal for safety’s sake
- be aware of stallions wearing green stallion disc
GEAR CHECK
- Gear check is at the entry of Arena 2 – please allow enough time to walk up to Arena 3 for your test
- Please be aware that at our shows we will be following rule 3.7 for arena entry.
- When presenting to the judge before a test, riders do not have to stop and report to the judge but must make sure the judge has clearly seen their Horse Identification Number
- As it is not practical to ride around the outside of the arenas prior to entering, the rider is permitted to enter the arena as soon as the previous rider has exited and before the bell is sounded. After the bell has sounded the new rider starts the test from within the arena.
- If you are unsure, please refer to the Dressage Rules on equestrian.org.au
- Horses will exit the large Arena 2 at the exit gate (see map below). There is no horse or pedestrian entry or exit on the roadway at the southern end of the Indoor arena at any time, to prevent distractions to competing horses in the indoor.
GENERAL
- Only competing horses may be on the grounds on competition days, with no exceptions. Insurance will not cover horses that are not entered & the committee reserve the right to request the horse be removed immediately.
- Only floats belonging to riders that have yards booked, may be parked down at the yard precinct.
- All horses must wear numbers on their halter and bridle at all times while at our events as per EA rules.
- Spectators must stay 10 metres away from all arena boundaries, including the indoor.
- Lunging – NO lunging in the Indoor Arena, Outdoor Dressage Arena or Large Outdoor Arena is permitted. Please use the Round Yard behind the Indoor Arena for this purpose or the grassed warmup areas.
- Dogs – NO dogs are permitted on the property
- Clean Up – All manure and hay must be picked up in the Indoor / Outdoor areas as well as in the float parking area and placed in the trailer and wheelbarrows provided. The committee reserves the right to refuse future entries if a competitor is found to be leaving their parking area with manure and /or hay. Your cooperation with this matter will be greatly appreciated and ensure that we can continue to use these wonderful facilities.
- Hose – You are more than welcome to use the hose to RINSE your horse but please do not wash your horse here – please do that at home
- Children - May only be left in charge of horses where adult supervision and assistance is immediately on hand.
- Smoking – Cromwell Park is a smoke free zone.
